Artist Bio

Duck Day, single channel video, 2019
Yuchen Xin’s artist practice examines personal and curious perceptions of the world and the absurdities in everyday life. This unconscious self-expression expresses through various mediums, including hand-formed objects, painting, video, ceramics, and digital work. The unique anthropomorphic characters she creates engage both her personal universe and the hyperactive side and strangeness of human conditions. She considers her characters to have aspects of absurdity, strangeness, and craziness like human beings but still retain a lovable quality.
Yuchen has exhibited in group and solo shows in Melbourne, including Rubicon ARI (upcoming), Assembly Point (2021), Trocadero Art Space (2021) and attended Studio Kura residency in Japan (2020). She received her BFA with distinction (2019) and graduated with first-class honours (2020) at RMIT University. She is currently studying for her MFA at RMIT University, Melbourne.
